SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: 

ABOUT TIME – FROM FOX:   A signature-gathering effort to force a recall vote on Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón officially launched this week – only a few months after he took office, according to reports.  The leaders and supporters of "Recall George Gascón" held a news conference Wednesday, criticizing the progressive policies that buoyed Gascón into office over incumbent Jackie Lacey, FOX 11 in Los Angeles reported.  Speakers at the news conference included those affected by crimes in the county.  "The sad truth … is that he has revictimized me and my family," Desiree Andrade, whose 20-year-old son was beaten and stabbed and thrown off a cliff to his death, said. "He has total, utter disregard for us victims. You, George Gascón, have put criminals before victims."  Prosecutors removed the special circumstances charges of a deadly weapon, kidnapping and robbery for her son's alleged murder, meaning the suspects won’t face the possibility of life without parole. Gascón has sought to remove special circumstances that could lengthen murder sentences in all cases.  Several prosecutors with the DA's office have also spoken out against Gascón removing special circumstances in especially violent murder cases.  Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has publicly supported the recall and signed the petition at the news conference, according to FOX 11.  This guy is a product of the George Soros ultra-left organization.  He is clearly unfit for his position.

I DIDN'T KNOW THIS – FROM DAILY CALLER:   A Chinese Communist Party-controlled news outlet paid major newspapers and magazines over $1.95 million between November and April to run advertisements stylized as news stories, according to a Justice Department disclosure filed Monday.  Time Magazine received $700,000 from the outlet, China Daily, for “advertisement expenses” during the six-month time period, the filing revealed. The Chinese propaganda outlet also paid a combined $1.26 million for advertisements in The Los Angeles Times, Foreign Policy, The Globe and Mail and the Financial Times during the timeframe, according to the filing.  China Daily spent an additional $883,000 with newspapers across the U.S. for printing expenses, the filing shows.  The filing reveals that China Daily has increased its advertising spending substantially over the past six months. The propaganda outlet had previously reported to the Justice Department spending $881,000 for advertising campaigns in western newspapers and magazines between May 2020 and October 2020, and another $759,000 for ads between November 2019 and April 2020.
The Monday filing was first reported by The Washington Free Beacon.  The revelation that China Daily boosted its advertising spending in western newspapers and magazines comes weeks after the International Federation of Journalists warned that China is using its vast media influence to spread narratives portraying China in the best possible light.   Let's see if American "journalism" even cares about this story.  So far the threat of China doesn't seem to bother the press guardians of America.  Choke.

THIS IS TERRIFIC – SPEAKING TRUTH TO DOPES – OVERNIGHT:    If America is so racist, how come so many thousands of people of color come to America each year, and with enthusiasm?  The great Deroy Murdock answers the question, and gives racial extremism the punch in the nose that it deserves.  From Fox:

If AmeriKKKa is so bigoted, why do Africans and Caribbeans leave Black-run, predominantly Black nations and come to the United States of America, which the Democratic-left condemns as Earth’s headwaters of "systemic racism" and white supremacy?

According to the most recent Department of Homeland Security data, 548,891 African immigrants became permanent U.S. residents between 2015 and 2019. In 2020, these were the top-10 African sources for such new green-card holders — plus each nation’s Black-population percentage, courtesy of the CIA World Fact Book.

*Nigeria: 12,247 individuals from a 99 percent Black country
*Democratic Republic of Congo: 11,752; 100 percent Black
*Ethiopia: 5,461; 87.4 percent
*Ghana: 4,532; 98.5 percent
*Kenya: 3,063; 91.8 percent
*Eritrea: 2,845; 95 percent
*Cameroon: 2,747; 95.5 percent
*Somalia: 2,636; 85 percent
*South Africa: 2,372; 79.2 percent
*Sudan: 2,017; 70 percent

Total: 49,672 permanent residents from 10 nations that are 90.1 percent Black, on average. By contrast, America’s population is 13.4 percent Black.

Each of these African nations yielded more permanent residents to America in 2020 than did the 944 from Sweden. Largely blond, blue-eyed Sweden is 82.3 percent white. Swedes, at least ethnically, are precisely the type whom a "systemically racist," white-supremacist nation would greet with pom-poms aflutter. And yet Swedish green-card recipients totaled fewer than half of those from Sudan...

...So, if America is so irretrievably racist, why does it keep granting green cards to these Africans and Caribbeans? Coping with native-born Black Americans should keep "systemic racism" plenty busy.

Why would it allow even more Blacks to immigrate to our shores?

Put another way: If you had three kids and decided that you really didn’t like children, would you go out and adopt two more babies?

It should be incredibly easy for "systemic racism" to deny these people visas, long before green cards enter the picture. Every application from a Kenyan or Haitian who wanted in could be nixed by a systemically racist consular officer at the corresponding U.S. embassy. Surely, the State Department is "systemically racist." And yet, these visas for Black foreigners keep getting approved.

Is "systemic racism" on the fritz?

And...

Such influential Caribbeans as Jamaican-born basketball legend Patrick Ewing and Trinidad-born Howard University president Wayne A.I. Frederick must be equally baffled.

Black immigrants like these treasure America’s abundant freedom and ample opportunity, never mind the "systemic racism" Big Lie relentlessly chanted by the America-hating Democratic-left.

COMMENT:  I have never seen new African immigrants interviewed by any major news organizations.  Maybe they're afraid of the answers they might get – pro-American answers.  I have no doubt that the woke left will demand that the Statue of Liberty be torn down once they see an African immigrant salute her.

LOOK WHO HAS LEFT US – FROM THE HILL:   William Shakespeare, who was among the first to receive the coronavirus vaccine, died of an unrelated illness at the age of 81.  Shakespeare left behind his wife of 53 years, Joy, along with two sons and grandchildren, after he had a stroke, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust said, the BBC reported.  Those in his life spoke about the pride he had in being among the first to get the coronavirus vaccine.  “Bill was so grateful for being offered the opportunity to become one of the first people in the world to be given the vaccine,” his wife said, according to the BBC.  "It was something he was hugely proud of — he loved seeing the media coverage and the positive difference he was able to make to the lives of so many,” she added.   Of course, he's had media coverage before, especially when "Macbeth" opened,   It is reported from another source that he died from extreme stress brought on by indecision.  He couldn't decide whether to be or not to be.  (Okay, you don't have to laugh.) 

GROSSLY OUTRAGEOUS IN THIS DEMOCRACY – FROM THE WASHINGTON TIMES:  Parents in Loudoun County, Virginia, are outraged over the public school district’s decision to start using an anonymous “Bias Reporting” form.  The parents, who are part of a recently formed political action committee called “Fight for Schools,” say the form “asks students to anonymously cancel each other” in an effort to root out racism.   “Another day in Loudoun County, another Orwellian move from Loudoun County Public Schools,” the group said in an email last week. “This time [the district] has created a system where students and parents can anonymously report other students for ‘bias.’ … What could possibly go wrong?!”  The message also includes a screenshot of an email reportedly sent by the school stating that students can “denote if they wish to have the incident followed up at their respective school.”  A spokesperson for Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) told The Washington Times that the form is part of the district’s “Detailed Action Plan to Combat Systemic Racism.”  “The specific reason behind this action step is to utilize it as a means to amplify and elevate student voice,” the spokesperson said in an email last week.  The decision to create the form stems from a 2019 “Systemic Equity Assessment” that “revealed some students who felt marginalized or had experienced bias,” the spokesperson said.  I guess the next move is to ask students to spy on their parents.  All in the name of fighting evil.

DOWN, DOWN, GOES THE TITANIC OF TV NEWS – OVERNIGHT:  CNN, the worst name in news, keeps sinking, and you begin to wonder who's paying the bills.  From Newsbusters: 

Along with its ongoing ethical problems, a deceptive marketing campaign, and a continued hatred for non-liberal voices, it’s been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year for the Jeffrey Zucker-led CNN. And as per the latest Nielsen ratings, CNN has continued to hemorrhage viewers with primetime and entire day total viewership down over 70 percent since January.

Nielsen Media Research has the breakdown and it’s not pretty, no matter how the Zucker Borg would spin it. Since a January high of roughly 798,000 primetime viewers and 530,000 total day viewers in the 25-54 demographic, CNN has fallen off a cliff and into the pit of misery with the network fetching only 229,000 in primetime and 152,000 in total day over the past month.

Remember, there are more than 330 million people in this country.   CNN, on a very good boom day, might edge to one third of one percent of that population.  One a bad day...their viewers meet in a closet.

That, dear NewsBusters readers, would represent a cratering of 71 percent for both metrics. Granted, January saw the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the second Trump impeachment, and the Biden inauguration, but to lose anything by such a large metric isn’t anything one should brag about.

If you’re delusional enough to think it was significantly better among all age demographics, think again (and we won’t even get to what fellow liberal network MSNBC has been pulling on weekends).
CNN flaunted their ratings back in January when they fetched nearly two million viewers (1.899 million) in total day and nearly three million (2.713 million) in primetime, but they haven’t had anything to write about since then as the last month yielded only 229,000 primetime viewers and a paltry audience of 152,000 in total day.

As percentages, those would work out to devastating drops of 65 percent and 67 percent, respectively.
Instead of making changes to their lineup to improve ratings and seek to reconcile with the side of the aisle they’ve treated like enemies, individual CNN shows have been paddling the struggleboat.
After a horrid start, the rebooted New Day fetched its worst week of the year last week with only 461,000 total viewers and 108,000 from the 25-54 demo.

COMMENT:  Read the rest.  I wouldn't want the guys who run CNN to be piloting my airliner.   In fact, the whole cable audience is smaller than people think.  But in that audience are the most politically influential eyes in the country, which gives cable news more power than its viewer numbers warrant.
